Not a fan of Valentine’s Day or at least the commercialism surrounding it?

How about taking part in a new festival aimed at celebrating the themes of love and belonging.  From Thursday 13th February to Saturday 15th February 2020, Norwich plays host to a new festival called ‘Love, Light, Norwich’.
The aim of the three day event is to celebrate art and innovation while highlighting issues such as social isolation and loneliness.

That’s quite a lot to take in, and it’s also billed as a ‘family-friendly’ festival.

The Valentine’s weekend can be a time when people feel isolated, as well as in love.We want to create an event that will welcome everyone and speak to Norwich’s unique heritage.  Alex Rinsler, Festival Artistic Director.

The festival opens with Love Light Labs, a free symposium exploring opportunities to encourage social inclusion and a better-connected city for all. The Light Lab showcases how businesses are using light to power social change and promote inclusion, while the Health Lab discusses the subject of ‘what does Arts for Health’ mean in 2020?

Other events at the festival include;

  • large scale projections transforming medieval architecture including Norwich Castle and Norwich Cathedral
  • French pyrotechnic street theatre performers
  • Sculptural light-up towers created to make musical sounds
  • A Valentine’s Parade from Norwich Cathedral to the Forum with a lantern processions and Lumidogs
  • Norwich Night Market
  • City food trail with various restaurants and cafe’s joining in. Look out for the heart in the window.

We believe that arts and culture play a critical role in shaping and promoting Norwich nationally and internationally, as an exciting and welcoming destination.  Stefan Gurney, Executive Director of Norwich BID.

*Sadly, due to extreme weather on Saturday 15th February, most of the events on Saturday had to be cancelled, however, the organisers are hopeful that the festival celebrating love and belonging will return to Norwich in 2021.*
